Poison Fuck’s Sake

Another early Poison mix. The mix has been inspired by the Poison’s intro (which appeared in the MFJG version of the track). This one of the mixes where I’ve used Liam’s voice as another sample. First version of Rock’n'roll has Liam’s “rhymes” which I took from one of first Liam’s video interview that was hosted by Neko ages ago at her old website. This is pretty funny Liam’s speech was very rhythmical these days, it was damn obvious to me. I just took the sound channel of the video and put it over the Rock’n'roll mix, I didn’t any time stretch or cut/paste, it just fit the track like Liam rhymed it out specially for the mix. It’s a quite magic, but the lyrics were Liam’s description of his music. Later I removed the sample from the remix to make it more “popular”, I didn’t want to make public think it’s a joke or fun, it was my personal art move. Hell knows why I put so much of sense into my work. Anyway, this Poison mix also use Liam’s voice a bit, but not really much, I had 64k limit per sample on the hardware.

TSD mixes gone LP

Remix Experience 2Funny to know, but that seems to be a truth - Japanese label sells Funky Shit and other unofficial remixes. I doubt they are ready to pay any fees to the remixers or Prodigy, but actually my Funky Shit remix is not the mix I would like to get any fees for. Of course there is my One Man Army remix on the vinyl as well, but it’s just another reason to keep Japanese guys out of Kuril Islands :) But anyway, I don’t care about any fees or races, it’s just funny know that the music can go that far, from a stuffy and dusty room located among Siberia to the vinyl disc made in Japan. Feel the power of “The Prodigy” brand! Lol.

So, the mix - Funky Shit. I believe this version is far better than on the LP.

Wind It Up

Another early mix made as a 4 channel Amiga module file - Wind It Up. A funny mix that made under full rave inspiration. I never done drugs, I never drunk vodka or even a beer, but this mix put me inside another London rave party right in the middle of Siberia. The funny thing that there was nobody to appreciate the mix when I finished it. I was alone as a fuck in heaven (in sense of the music). Remember, if you want to destroy yourself, just come to a place when nobody need none of your talents except digging your own grave. Do you know why I’m still alive? I’ve seen my fan once, it was a girlfriend of my brother’s friend. That was quite a weird situation when they came to our home and she escaped from her boyfriend to my room to check out my music. Sounds too religiously, but it looked like God has sent me an angel instead just a fan, because she was quite perfect and that was a quite hardest moment of my life. I have to admit that there was a lot of magic in my life, you don’t have to be insane to notice that.

Another BD present

It’s a quite fun that a small story lies behind almost any our of remixes. Unofficial remixing is a quite weird process. You need a quite reason to start thinking about the remixing. You need a quite knowledge to get samples out of the original. You need a quite courage to call the result “remix of Prodigy track”. People scales the remix with an unit of the original track. You can avoid the comparison. But not much of people actually realize that unofficial remixing is not just story about another looser being fly with samples for the moment of his life. Unofficial remixing is not about a cheap fame either. There a lot of official Prodigy remixes which are crap, people just collect them. So, even “official” word doesn’t do the fame. Have you ever thought why there are only few TSD remixes has been released since 2000? Do you think that because I’m a lazy dude? Maybe. But why the fuck then I started this whole Prodigy remixing back in 1997? Unofficial remixing is a natural energy flow. The energy flow which doesn’t care about hard_to_extract_samples, the energy flow which doen’t care what’s your native language, what’s problems you got to fight with. I’m a quite blabbing person, but I hope you got the idea and there is no need to mention what those funky unofficial mixes cost me. It’s sad Liam Howlett doesn’t actually know how important his sober head in his studio. It’s not about champagne to me. Today the Prodigy are going to play in Ekaterinburg (Russia), that’s another gig I won’t see, that’s another gig I don’t want to see. Why? Because I’m not Prodigy consumer. AONO is an unfinished result of collaborations with less talent persons. I don’t need gigs that full of old tracks, I don’t need your pictures in magazines, I don’t need your autograph, I don’t need your “competitions” and “prizes”, I don’t need your websites and 64kbps mp3 files on it, I don’t need your funky quotes, I don’t need your new haircut, I don’t need your “it’s up to the record label”. Throw your fucking champagne out and stop the touring around.

There was a time when I could do Prodigy remixes by the wish. Narayan remix is another happy birthday wish for my first internet friend Jussi Lahtinen aka JuGez. His is the most nice person I’ve ever met. One of few who has offered any help with the TSD music hosting and the general support. Now he seems to be busy with his new job and private life, but that’s ok to me, I just hope to shake your hand one day.

mr. Liam Howlett, there is another Prodigy remix you have never heard of - Narayan (Red Square Echo).

My 98

If you think this blog is a place for well known and boring Prodigy TSD remixes then you’re mistaken. There is a bunch of rare or never published mixes and related crap.

The Prodigy demo tape has been published a couple of weeks ago, and now I’m thinking - what the hell, it’s time for the OLD things”. Liam Howlett began with Roland W-30 with crappy features, I began with ZX-Spectrum. Today I’m going to start a “Early mixes” category.

da hardware! What do you think I’m holding in my hand at this picture? Whatever you think - you’re mistaken. It’s a hardware mod-file player for ZX-Spectrum computer, world #1 computer, 20 years ago (if this makes difference to you). The sound card is “General Sound”, was developed by russian XL-Design scene group in 1997. It has 128kb of RAM (can be extented up to 512kb) and Zilog’s Z-80B as CPU running at 12Mhz. It’s not even Roland W-30, it’s not London’s underground, it’s something that came from level below Earth mantle. But that’s not a minus at all. Four 8-bit channels? No software? 500kb for samples? 3000 miles of taiga around? Shit features? Fuck W-30, fuck million dolars studio equipment, fuck school, fuck politics, fuck another Russia crisis, fuck the future, fuck the past - I got Poison. - That’s my 1998 and I’m 17.

And really, Poison is my favorite Prodigy track, I’ve done a dozen of mixes on it, some of them were not lost and will be uploaded to the site. The only sad thing that there is no “proper” TSD mix of Poison where I could use everything I know about sound, where I could find and dig out something with the same level. Unfortunataly, I’m not a citizen of UK, I’m not even a fan of Public Enemy, I’m a siberian dude, and a quite looser. But I should say I did my best in those old mixes with mentioned equipment. It’s a quite “Art of limitations”. Enjoy.
