Just stumbled across Thrillabeats myspace, one of the most perspective Russian break/big-beat electronic bands. The band is from Novosibirsk, one of the greatest Siberian cities. Actually, I’m quite proud I know the man behind all Thrillabeats fat sounds – Nik. He’s the one who helped me with midi-adaptation of my Ritm-2, soviet analogue synth which is very similar to Moog Prodigy. Novosibirsk is a kind of scientific centre in Russia, so, there are a lot of people familiar with micro-electronic and all this stuff. So, it was no surprise I found Nik who’s actually genius in sound technologies and fat beats. Also Nik is an old Prodigy fan, and it was no problem to be in touch. He’s damn interested in sampling and recreating. And I’m quite jealous he’s got a huge hip-hop/funk/beat records collection. For example, it’s a piece of cake to recreate some Girls, VooDoo People or Firestarter to him, he’s all the knowledge about synths and he’s got all the samples. I’ve got his Girls remix track he’s done within a couple of minutes, and I know the you’ve got to have some real skilled balls to be able make stuff like that. I’m glad Thrillabeats seems to be a very successful project nowadays, they tour, they do some real shows around Russia and UK clubs.
